Warm water, bright sun and an incorrect weather forecast (the all-day rain was over after half an hour in the early morning) all combined to make it a great weekend for mid-August camping. Bayfield County's Twin Bear campground was filled to overflowing on Saturday, August 11. The pictures here were taken after 7:00 PM. There was no way to count the number of people in the park, but it certainly was crowded. Many of the campsites had two or more vehicles parked. The boat trailer parking area was filled. The boats transported on those trailers were plying the beautiful waters of the Pike Chain. If 125 additional campsites are added three miles from Twin Bear park, what impact will that have on the chain? How many of those boats will be inspected going in and coming out of the water? |

The lower parking lot was filled to capacity. The end pickup had a pontoon trailer attached, restricting traffic movement as well as visibility. |
Across from the camp store building, this huge trailer was parked along the roadside (not marked as a campsite). |

This view from the lower restroom area shows some of the trailers parked, seemingly helter-skelter, along the entrance road. |
Behind the trailers six tents were pitched literally tent stake to tent stake. |

This campsite apparently has room for a camper, tent, pontoon boat and, presumably, one or more vehicles. In the background is Twin Bear Lake, within a two year-old's stone throw. |
